PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- A 70-year-old man was fatally shot Friday morning outside an auto body shop in Philadelphia's Ogontz neighborhood.

The shooting happened around 8:30 a.m. in the front parking lot of A1 Plus Auto on the 5900 block of Ogontz Avenue.

A witness who was working nearby told Action News he heard three men arguing and tried to get them to stop. He said the men fought several times before one of them pulled out a gun.

"He pulled a gun out and shot him five times," the witness said.

The victim was shot outside the garage bays. He was taken to Jefferson Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The witness said the argument began between a mechanic and a customer over repair work on a vehicle before the worker's son became involved.

Police investigators placed evidence markers around spent shell casings, two hats, and cellphones found on the ground. Investigators also collected a metal pipe as evidence.

The witness described the victim as a man who kept to himself.

"He was a nice guy. I really didn't know his name. He didn't bother anybody," the witness said.

Neighbors said the auto body shop had been in the area for decades but was recently purchased by new owners in May. Flyers advertising a grand opening celebration were posted around the property, with the event scheduled for Saturday.

The witness said the shooter remained at the scene. Police said one man is in custody, but no charges had been announced Friday.

Police had not publicly identified the victim.

The investigation remains ongoing.
